The New Radeon Architecture

You’ll notice that the ATI Radeon HD 5870 Graphics Processor has made internal improvements. First off, there’s the change from the size of the silicon to 40nm as compared to the previous 55 nm. Its small size has allowed more space for more transistors, and with the added number, you’ll see that it is able to perform much better. There’s now the definite increase on the transistor count as well. It went from 956 million to an impressive 2.15 billion. What AMD did is virtually double the amount of functional units across the board.

The new 5870 performs so much better because it packs 1,600 stream shaders, comes with 80 texture units, and it also now has 32 ROPs or Render Output Units. While the chip’s memory base remains essentially untouched, the amount of improvements does make it more effective. The 256 bit does so much more with more power behind it. Why? Because the other parts serve to enhance its performance. All the other mechanisms have add-ons to give more power to your PC. The GDDR5 clocks in at 1.2GHz that allows a data rate performance at 4.8GHz. Moreover, there’s an increase in the bandwidth of its memory because it goes from 115GB/s to 154GB/s. This version comes with the 1GB board.

You’re gaming experience will be more memorable because the clock speed of the GPU itself runs at 850MHz. When you take a look at its previous 4870, it’s 100MHz faster and more efficient. If you want your gaming experience to be better, then you have to go out and get this for yourself.
